The most memorable sportsperson…

In an outstanding finish to an outstanding career, Michael Schumacher finished his last race fourth a field in a race where he had a puncture, went to the back of the field and showed his brilliance to come an incredible fourth. He’ll surely be remembered for his resilience, his composure and his methodical performances as the greatest to ever to partake in Formula One racing.

I’m sure there other sportsman that are also remembered and cherished for their deeds weather they be good or bad. I very much enjoyed John Mcenroe’s antics on a tennis court, as crazy as he was he was able to provide an added entertainment that others could not afford. You almost wanted the chair umpire to make a bad call so John would lose his temper and his racket.

Sometimes people are remembered for the most peculiar things and when you end up spending a Saturday night watching a game, you think what happened to him/her?? They were so much more entertaining…

When the stage is as big as it is for sports heros, antics and such linger on in memory. Do you remember Dennis Rodman, the basketball freak?

Great example, Rodman was a freak he even dated Madonna for a while when she was not quite right... He would change the colour of his hair in almost every game he played.

I agree that Schumacher (Shu) will be remembered for his resilience, his composure and his methodical performances. However, it's sportsman such as Mceroe that have the charisma and emotion that a conservative sport such as Formula 1 needs to create some controversy. This in turn can grow it's supporter base and further fulfil the economic imperative that any or dare I say every sport (even F1) necessitates.

Schumacher needs to be elevated to the greatness he deserves. He is an institution, who has for the last decade revolutionized sporting landscape. In deeded with his resilience and composure but most importantly his artistry and sheer brilliance that has led him to win 7 F1 drivers championships. Sure some may call it methodical, but to do so only cheapens what have been some great fought victories. F1's emotion is very much etched in not only the personalities of the drivers, but the personality of the cars. Conservatism is a word many would associate with tennis; I mean what is a sprained ankle compared to the possibility of crashing head into a wall, traveling at speeds of over 200 Km/hr into a wall?

So have a beer, get pissed and enjoy F1

You're right SB, Schumacher is an inspiration to the sport and a great ambassador. In saying that though one could argue weather he is as entertaining as someone like a 'Montoya' who probably won't reach the great heights but will be as controversial as a Mcenroe in tennis. Who is more entertaining??
