The 100 Millionth Website
November 2nd 2006 06:37
A lot of you reading this post will have noticed the title and thought wow, is there really 100 million websites?? The answer is ‘yes there is’. The Internet has changed the way we communicate, the way we advertise, the way we do business and most importantly the way we advocate our opinions, beliefs and passions.
How long do you spend on the Internet?? I’m in Online Marketing and spend about 6 hours on average at work and then come home and spend at least an hour or two more on extra curricular activities. My life is embedded in the web. Sounds a little sad but I would assume that a lot of my fellow blogers have a similar life story.
Imagine what our lives would be like without it?? To think that the Internet has only been around since 1991 is quite amazing. Some of us are totally reliant on the web and would not know what to do without it. Gone are the days when one would pick up the phone or look in the local phone directory for answers, locations or movie times.
In the calendar year there have been 27.4 million websites added to the World Wide Web it really does signal the significance of the Internet and where our futures are headed. The online industry is huge, growing at a rapid rate and is likely to keep growing beyond our greatest expectations.

That is crazy! I can't believe 27 million NEW websites have been added in the last year. We really have become reliant on the internet havn't we?

From a company perspective you only have to look back a few weeks ago on the sale of youtube and the amount of money two unknowns made on a fantastic concept. The most fascinating facet of the online world is the amount of exposure online companies are attaining because of their online deeds. Google has once again announced a record profit and getting more exposure than some of the bigger corporate entities that don’t specialise in online mediums. So where should one focus their attention??

On a more serious note, It's extremely difficult for me to gage exactly what you know and don't know.. I mean 'yes' I can make a generalisation and run with a topic that might exude my enthusiasm but your thoughts may be exactly the opposite. I wish I could read everyone’s mind and rack up 300 votes per post but I’m human after all, what a shame!
That’s why this is an open forum and you’re entitled to your opinion, thanks for the comment.
