Airport Security

Sydney International Airport

Airport security has become paramount due to the amount of terrorist activity in recent years. It would be fair to say that Australia is a major target considering our alliance with the U.S and we should be doing everything in our power to secure our nations ports and airports. The Bali bombings and the devastation in the London underground are timely reminders of the past that could become the very near future.

Well it seems as though our authorities are still very much behind the eight ball when it comes to securing our nations airports. Sydney International Airport would have to be our busiest and most popular airport. On Sunday evening a person was able to breach security. Not too bad you reckon? Well after breaching security this person could not be found and the airport still has no answers into the person’s whereabouts. So a person was able to pass the yellow line and disappear into thin air! You have got to be joking, right?

In my view this is exactly what we have to avoid. I mean the ongoing debate will rage on as to why we continue to support the U.S in its comical efforts to reduce terrorism. The bottom line, our government will always have a duty of care to all its citizens and residents. We can fly as many flags as we like on Australia day but shouldn’t we also foresee the destruction that could be?

Iam failing to understand what your argument is. Is your argument about airport security being inadequate? or is it Australia's support to the the US? or is us flying the Australian flag in the name of patriotism?

Homer,

My argument is definitely about inadequate airport security, the other issues have been bough up in a sarcastic context simply to support my view. In addition, I'd also like to let you know that I am 'for' waiving the Australian flag on Australia day.

In this article are you offering any insight or just babbling on about the plain obvious?

OK he got through security, so what is your point?

I think my point is painfully obvious. I am concerned about the lack of security at our airports. Not every article or blog will provide you with insight at least not the insight you seem to be looking for.

Just to play Devil's advocate, is it possible that the Airport security actually did know what happened to the person and there is more to the story that we the public don't know? Assuming someone or anyone 'passes the yellow line,' there has to be some surveillance for any illegal or even dubious activity?

It is very much possible that security know a little bit more than meets the eye. Is it than not there responsibility to at least make them selves look good?

If I were caught at customs in malaysia with a couple of pounds of nose candy I would much rather be a yank. The aussie govt dobs em in and makes them hang....
